The upcoming Chinese New Year (CNY) holiday is 1/29/25 to 2/03/25. Generally speaking, factories will be closed from late January to late February. Factory workers leave 5-10 days prior to the holiday and return to work in the days following.
Below is a recommended timeline to avoid any CNY related production delays:
Mid-to-Late November – Place Purchase Orders
Placing a purchase order in mid-to-late November assures goods will be manufactured and shipped prior to CNY. Plastic goods, fabric bags and specialty items take longer to produce than paper goods. Aim for placing plastic goods, fabric bags and specialty items POs in mid-Nov.
Dec/Mid-Jan – Pre-CNY Production Takes Place / Good Ship Out
POs placed in mid-to-late November are manufactured in Dec/mid-Jan. It’s possible that POs placed in early-Dec. can still be manufactured – but there are no guarantees. It depends on a case-by-case basis (size of order plays a big role in this). Finished goods ship out mid-Jan.
Late-Jan/Early-Feb – CNY Holiday
Workers leave factories for the Chinese New Year Holiday and the factories go offline.
Late-Feb – Workers Return
When workers return in late-Feb there is generally a backlog of POs causing prolonged production timelines. Goods from POs placed in mid-to-late Nov. arrive in mid-to-late Feb. (if shipped via ocean freight).
If the mid-to-late Nov. PO window is missed, late-Feb. is when new production of new goods will begin.
Early-May
If the mid-to-late Nov. PO window is missed, early May is when goods arrive in the U.S. (if shipped via ocean freight).
